Girl drowns in canal

MUZAFFARGARH:

A girl drowned in a canal while a boy was missing after both slipped into the water while playing near the bank in Alipur.

Rescue 1122 said the body had been retrieved from about 20 kilometres away near Matma Wali Bridge and handed over to the heirs.

Six-year-old Muhammad Irfan and five-year-old Hania had gone missing.

A report was filed with the Bahawalpur Control Room of Rescue 1122.

Both children were residents of Basti Panjnad. After receiving the information, Rescue 1122 divers launched a search operation in the more than 15 feet wide and 60 feet deep canal.

They succeeded in recovering the girl's body, while the boy remained missing.

Initial reports from rescuers said the children has slipped into the canal while playing.
