Jennifer Love Hewitt has addressed long-standing rumors of a feud with her I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar, revealing that the two actresses haven’t spoken in decades. In a recent interview with Vulture published on July 18, Hewitt said she and Gellar have not kept in touch since the release of the original 1997 slasher film.

“I haven’t seen Sarah,” Hewitt shared. “Literally, we’ve not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out.” The 46-year-old actress explained that she has no ill feelings toward Gellar and doesn’t understand where speculation about a feud originated. “I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that all came to be,” she said. “I just think people don’t want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?”

The interview was conducted prior to the Los Angeles premiere of the new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel on July 14, which both actresses attended. Despite being at the same event, they did not cross paths.

Gellar later addressed their lack of interaction in an Instagram comment, explaining that she missed the red carpet because she was inside with her children and didn’t attend the after-party where Hewitt was also absent. “I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie,” Gellar wrote. “Unfortunately some things happen only in real life and not online.”

Gellar and Hewitt starred in the original film alongside Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Phillippe, and Johnny Galecki. While Gellar’s character was killed off in the original, she has remained involved with the franchise due to her connection to director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and her marriage to Prinze.
