Sarah Michelle Gellar has shut down online speculation regarding a rumored feud with Jennifer Love Hewitt following the Los Angeles premiere of the new I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel.
Gellar, 48, who starred in the original 1997 slasher film but did not return for the latest installment, attended the event to support her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., who reprises his role as Ray Bronson alongside Hewitt’s Julie James.
After Gellar posted a series of premiere photos on Instagram, fans noticed Hewitt was missing from the gallery, prompting comments like “The beef is real” and expressing concern over the lack of recognition for Hewitt.
Gellar quickly addressed the rumors in the comments section and later reposted her response in her Instagram Stories.

“For everyone asking — I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie,” Gellar wrote. She explained that she was inside with her children during the main red carpet event and that Hewitt did not attend the after-party. “If you have ever been to one of these it’s crazy,” she added. “I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are.”
Fans largely praised Gellar’s transparency and maturity in addressing the situation, defending her from unfounded online drama. Others appreciated her continued support of the franchise, which helped launch her career and led to her relationship with Prinze Jr., whom she married in 2002.
While Gellar’s character, Helen Shivers, was killed in the original film, she attended the premiere wearing an Oscar de la Renta mini dress and posed with cast members including Madelyn Cline and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. I Know What You Did Last Summer hits theaters July 18.
