'Animorphs' TV series is in development at Disney+ with Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media producing the adaptation

A television adaptation of Animorphs is currently in early development at Disney+, according to a new report.
The project brings renewed attention to the popular young adult franchise as streaming platforms continue investing in established IP.
Writer Bayan Wolcott is attached to pen the series and serve as an executive producer. The show will also be produced by Ryan Coogler alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian under their banner Proximity Media. Additional executive producers include Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman on behalf of Scholastic, which originally published the books. 20th Television will serve as the studio.
Based on the bestselling series by Katherine Applegate and Michael Grant, the story follows a group of teenagers who discover a secret alien invasion threatening Earth. After encountering a dying alien from the Andalite race, they gain the ability to morph into animals, launching a covert resistance against the parasitic Yeerks.
The original book series ran from 1996 to 2001, spanning 54 main installments and selling over 35 million copies worldwide. Its blend of science fiction, moral dilemmas, and coming-of-age themes has made it a standout in the YA genre.
If greenlit, the Disney+ project would mark the second live-action adaptation following a Nickelodeon series that aired between 1998 and 2000. The development also aligns with Disney+’s ongoing strategy to expand its YA slate, including series like Percy Jackson and the Olympians and a planned adaptation of Eragon.
