Sukkur DIG shares police statistics from last nine months

SUKKUR: In the first phase of the population census that began on March 15in Ghotki district, which is part of Sukkur region, around 1,181 policemen, 23 police mobiles and 42 motorcycles were deployed, said Sukkur DIG Syed Feroze Shah, while sharing the police performance of last nine months.

According to him, to monitor the process of the population census two monitoring cells - one each in Ghotki and Sukkur - have been established, while arrangements have been finalised for the second phase of the population census which is scheduled to start from April 15.

In this regard, the DIG visited all the police stations throughout Sukkur and Khairpur districts to check the wireless communication and later submitted a report to the Sindh IG regarding shortcomings and suggestions to make the process fool proof. Besides this, the DIG also ordered police officers from Sukkur and Khairpur to monitor the process of the population census in Ghotki district, which would prove helpful for them in the second phase of the census in their own districts.

Reports regarding police performance during the last nine months said that, police in Sukkur region arrested around 1,428 criminals and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession. According to the report, the Sukkur region police, along with law enforcement agencies, during 205 combing operations, conducted 295 raids, arrested nine terrorists belonging to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and recovered 29 kilogrammes of explosives, 23 hand grenades, six awan bombs and five packets of ball bearings and other material used for preparing suicide vests.

During the period, the police detained 51,077 suspects, of which 1,428 criminals were arrested after investigation. During the period 11 'most wanted and hardened criminals' were killed and 71 of them were arrested in injured condition. Besides this, 5,109 absconders and 4,317 proclaimed offenders were also arrested.

The report said that to provide protection to the lives and property of the people, police throughout Sukkur region were busy rooting out criminals and in this process many encounters took place between the police and criminals.

While fighting the criminals, three police officials laid down their lives in the line of duty and five sustained injuries. The DIG said that the sacrifices of the police officials have proved to be a morale booster for others who have resolved to fight against criminals till the last criminal is caught.
