KARACHI:

Chaos hit Tariq Road on Friday afternoon when a car carrying two women sank into a pothole caused by a collapsed road, following heavy rains and strong winds since Thursday night. Quick action by locals and traffic police saved the women from a potentially dangerous situation.

The incident occurred near Ferozabad police precinct around 1pm as the vehicle was traveling on the fast track from Allah Wali Chowrangi towards Liberty Signal. Witnesses reported that the car suddenly sank as the sewer line beneath the road gave way, and water began filling the vehicle immediately.

Traffic police, along with on-site police mobile units and locals, rescued the trapped women and moved them to safety. A private tow truck was later called to lift the sunken car from the collapsed pit.

Nawaz Siyal, Station Officer of the Tariq Road Traffic Section, said that a major sewer line runs 20 to 25 feet below the collapsed spot. A manhole at the same location contributed to the sudden collapse.

Police and local administration officials quickly arrived at the site and placed barriers around the pit to prevent further accidents. The incident highlights the ongoing infrastructure challenges faced by Karachi, particularly after extreme weather events.
