UVAS to undertake food safety study

Research to be conducted on health effects of toxic chemicals produced by fungi present in animal feed

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) will undertake a research study on health effects of mycotoxins (toxic chemicals produced by fungi present in animal feed) with assistance from a multinational corporation according to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the university and the MNC on Wednesday.


UVAS Vice Chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and Naveed Ahmad Khan attended the signing ceremony. In a press statement, Dr Pasha said the research study, Assessment of Aflatoxin Control Measures on Performance of Dairy Animals in Punjab, would help efforts to improve the quality of milk produced in the country. He appreciated the private sector company for extending financial support for the study. He said he hoped the partnership would continue after the study. Khan said his company was committed to sharing knowledge about food safety measures with all stakeholders. He said his company believed in investing in food safety measures at all levels of the food supply chain . The MoU stated Dr Pasha would be the project’s investigator and Dr Muhammad Nasir from Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition the co-principal investigator.
