LAHORE:

Police said on Saturday that an uncle of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Lahore president Amir Baloch had been killed in the Green Town area.

Officials said Azam Ashraf and his accomplices had shot Manzoor Afridi after he had arrived there to review progress on construction at the plot. Police said the assailants had also fired at Baloch’s car parked nearby.

Officials said Ashraf had been squatting on the property. Police said Afridi had obtained a ruling from Lahore High Court (LHC) in this regard. Officials said the court had also directed Green Town SHO Muhammad Shareef Sindhu to assist him to repossess the plot. Afridi had regained possession of the property on Wednesday with police assistance.

Speaking to The Express Tribune SHO Sindhu said Afridi was shot five times in the legs. SHO Sindhu said an FIR had been registered against Ashraf and his accomplices. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed Operations DIG Haider Ashraf to submit a report regarding the event. He directed Ashraf to ensure that the assailants were nabbed and action was taken against them.

DIG Ashraf has constituted a committee to probe the incident and submit a report after completing investigation.
