KARACHI: Residents of Muhammadi Dera and other nearby areas protested outside the K-Electric's (KE) Malir office on Sunday night.
A dispute broke out among two groups of protesters whose gripe was against unannounced load-shedding and prolonged load-shedding. Several people were injured in the clash that ensued over some hot words.
The police reached the site upon receiving information and the protestors dispersed. The police shifted the injured to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Meanwhile, the rabita committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has condemned the KE's attitude and remarked that it had become a norm that power is suspended in half the city after a single drop of rain.
The committee said that the cost of electricity per unit has been rising and alleged that KE was overcharging its customers.
Power cuts after midnight during light rain amid hot and humid weather is no less than hell, it remarked. KE's customary explanation about tripped feeders day and night should now end, the committee demanded.
The committee also sought an end to double load charged by KE under the guise of 'peak hour' while claiming it was KE's way of charging people for over time.
The rabita committee urged the Supreme Court and Prime Minister Imran Khan to save Karachi from the careless conduct of KE.
