Punishment: Action taken against 13 police officers

Several cops were suspended due to corruption, criminal activities

KARACHI: More than a dozen police officers and personnel were punished on Sunday by their higher-ups for their alleged involvement in corruption and criminal activities.

The police officers and personnel punished were posted in the Karachi police’s districts East and South. According to District East police spokesperson, six police officers and personnel of District East were suspended for their involvement in criminal activities and narcotics. These officers and personnel are sub-inspector (SI) Raja Imtiaz posted to the New Town police DSP office, ASI Bashir posted to Brigade police station, ASI Arz Muhammad and ASI Iqbal Mangi of PIB police station, head constable Fakharuddin of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station and police constable Raees Ahmed of Mehmoodabad police station.

The spokesperson added that four more police officials and personnel of District East were suspended for their involvement in land grabbing, illegal construction and the narcotics’ trade. The officers and personnel suspended include ASI Majid Korai and ASI Muhammad Ramzan of Sacchal police station and two constables, Imran and Jahangir, of Anti-Street Crime Squad of Gulshan Division. The spokesperson said that on information and discrete initial inquiries, action has been taken against those officials who are involved in criminal and other illegal activities in District East.

Separately, three more police personnel were suspended for collecting bribes from citizens.  The suspended police personnel include head constable Qurban and two constables, Abid and Ghulam Mustafa. They were suspended by District South SSP Saqib Ismail Memon after they were found to be involved in collecting bribes by blackmailing motorcyclists in Clifton.
