KARACHI: Pakhtun-dominated areas of Karachi will also be provided all basic amenities of life like other parts of the city, promised Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Thursday.

He was speaking to a six-member delegation of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) led by Nazeer Jan at Governor House.

The facilities of health, education, communications, water and electricity are the right of each and every citizen without any sort of discrimination, said Khan.

On complaints of water shortage in Pakhtun areas, the governor said that new motors and pumps will be installed at pumping stations in these areas. Shortage of available potable water is a problem across the city, which is why K-IV, a project to supply additional 260MGD water, has been started, Khan pointed out, adding that water shortage will be overcome after the project's expected completion in 2017.  According to the governor, Karachi is truly a mini-Pakistan as people from every corner of the country come to the city to get some kind of employment or business opportunity and this was the very reason that it is called the economic hub of the country, which contributes around 70% to the national exchequer.

Pakhtuns are a very hardworking community and they have contributed a lot for the progress and development of Karachi, said Khan, assuring the delegation that the community's complaints of facing issues with the police, the National Database Registration Authority and other government departments will be resolved soon.

The delegation members also pointed out how their transporters are not compensated when their vehicles are set ablaze during riots. The governor said their grievances will be addressed. The members appreciated the governor's efforts in ensuring the construction of Banaras flyover.
