A division bench of SHC, comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Imam Bux Baloch, directed the respondents on Monday to file comments along with supporting affidavits in the case of a young man, Janzeb, who was allegedly arrested on January 27 and has been missing since then.
The bench was hearing a constitutional petition filed by Mehreen Nadeem, Janzeb’s sister. Citing the Sindh home secretary, Rangers DG, Sindh IGP, Capital City Police Officer Karachi, Shah Faisal Town TPO and Shahrae Faisal SHO as respondents, the petitioner contended that on December 27, 2010 at around 4 am, a police team including policewomen raided their house in Jauhar Square, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and took him away.
The same morning, the family went to the police station and even to other authorities but to no avail. The petitioner alleged that her brother was not produced before any court of law and was being detained illegally. She asked the court to direct the respondents to produce Janzeb before the court and to ask the authorities to give reasons for harassing the family.
After hearing the petition, the bench put the respondents on notice and also directed them to produce the detainee, if he is in custody of any of the respondents, at the next date of hearing.
