Pardon: Court suspends death sentence

KARACHI:

The black warrants of two death row prisoners were suspended by the anti-terrorism court, which had issued them earlier on February 23 after the convicts' counsel said a compromise has been reached with the victim's family. The warrants for Faisal and Afzal were issued for March 5. They were convicted in July 1999 for killing a man during a robbery in Korangi in 1998.

The victim's family approached the high court, which did not entertain the plea and asked the counsel to go to the trial court.

The plea stating the compromise between the parties is likely to be submitted in the next two days, said defence lawyer Zafar Ahmed.
