LAHORE: The judicial tribunal probing the Model Town incident on Friday directed the operations deputy inspector general and nine superintendents, who participated in the Model Town police operation, to file affidavits on the incident at the hearing on July 21.

The tribunal received on Friday affidavits of 19 policemen who were allegedly injured during the operation.

A deputy director of the ISI submitted a preliminary analysis of 17 phone numbers used by police and government high-ups on the day of the operation. The tribunal directed the deputy director to file a complete report on July 23.

Joint Investigation Team representative Saiful Murtaza gave the tribunal 13 mobile numbers of 10 other high-ups. He said they had obtained another mobile number used by former law minister Rana Sanaullah. He said they had written to the relevant authorities requesting verification of the numbers. The tribunal directed the cellular companies to provide details of the numbers on Monday, the next date of hearing.

The tribunal observed that since the police had started presenting its witnesses, it was appropriate to summon other police officers and officials who had participated in the operation.

The tribunal directed former Operations DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar, Superintendents Tariq Aziz, Maroof Wahla, Awais Malik, Umar Virk, Farrukh Raza, Muhammad Nadeem, Rana Rizwan, Abdul Rehman Sherazi and Salman Khan to appear before the court and submit their affidavits.
