KARACHI: The law enforcers managed to kill at least two alleged gangsters during an encounter in Lyari on Wednesday. They also arrested 55 other suspects.

According to police officials, the encounter that killed Sana Baloch and Yousuf Lasi took place in Dubai Chowk, Lyari.

As soon as the police and Rangers reached the neighbourhood, the gangsters opened fire at them.

The law enforcers fired back in retaliation and wounded the two gangsters. The two suspects died shortly after and were sent to Civil hospital for autopsies.

The two men were associated with Lyari’s Jabbar Jhengu gang and were wanted by the police in cases of target killings, kidnappings and extortion. The police also seized several arms from their possession.

The deceased gangsters were apparently working for the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) chief Uzair Baloch in his fight with a former PAC supported, Noor Muhammad alias Baba Ladla, said a police officer.

There were reports that gang leader Jabbar Jhengu was arrested on Wednesday but the police failed to confirm his arrest.

Rangers arrests

Separately, the Rangers claimed to have apprehended 49 alleged criminals including some Lyari gangsters, some members of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and a few criminals affiliated with a political party.

The paramilitary force conducted Wednesday’s raids in Allah Dad Goth, Sharafi Goth, Lyari, Sherpao Colony, Chishti Nagar, Model Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Awami Colony, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Mazdoor, Zeenat Square in Liaquatabad, Pak Colony, alKaram Square, Lines Area, Jacob Lines, Shoe Market, Lea Market, Mansoor Nagar in Orangi, Saib Dad Goth, Lassi Goth, Pipri, Dhani Buksh Goth, Gulzar Colony, Fire Brigade Flats in Gulberg and Haroonabad

ACLC arrests

In an encounter, the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) also arrested two alleged car lifters, who were injured in an encounter with the police in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. According to ACLC officials, the lifters were identified as Iftikhar Nisar and Abdul Nabi.

Similarly, three more suspected criminals were injured and arrested after an encounter with the police in the Bilal Colony area of Korangi Industrial Area. The injured criminals were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.  Meanwhile, Orangi Town police have apprehended an accused, who allegedly killed his parents inside their house in the same neighbourhood. The accused, Adnan, confessed to having killed his parents with scissors. He insisted, however, that there were ‘jinns’ in his house that forced him to kill his parents.
