KARACHI:

While the city continues to lose its citizens by the dozens to sectarian and targeted attacks, MNA Faryal Talpur, who is the sister of President Asif Ali Zardari and head of the Pakistan People’s women wing, has filed a petition at the Sindh High Court and complained that she has not been provided adequate security.

The petition, filed by Masood Ghani, cites letters written by the Crises Management Cell to the federal interior ministry, home secretaries of all provinces, Sindh and Punjab Rangers DGs and Rawalpindi regional police officer, that referred to looming threats to Talpur’s life. All of these officials have been made respondents in the petition.

Talpur alleged that the respondents had been asked to provide her adequate security, but they had taken no steps in this regard so far. She added that she has to travel a lot due to the nature of her job and therefore needed proper security arrangements.

She prayed the court to direct to the respondents to make necessary security arrangements for her, and to also allow her to use a vehicle with tinted glasses and carry personal security guards with licensed weapons.
