HYDERABAD:

On September 26, shutters across Sindh will be pulled down in protest against the new local government ordinance, said members of the Save Sindh Committee on Monday. This will be the second strike organised by the nationalists against the ordinance in less than two weeks.

The committee which includes parties such as Sindh United Party (SUP), Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Awami Tehreek, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and others is now also supported by National Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional and other former allies of the Sindh government.

“We will block the three major highways and other roads in Sindh,” said SUP’s vice president Shah Muhammad Shah at a press conference on Monday. “There will be sit-ins in each and every district of the province and leaders such as SUP’s Jalal Mehmood Shah, Awami Tehreek’s Ayaz Palijo and Qadir Magsi will be protesting at the Hyderabad Bypass where Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s Saleem Zia and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Funtional) Senator Khalid Mehmood Soomro will also join them.”
