The officer, whose role was limited to examining the car that was shot at, was cross-questioned extensively over the bullet cartridges found from the vehicle. He was also asked by the defence counsel, who is representing three of the four accused men, whether he could tell the court which direction the bullets had been fired from.
The court was told that after two men on a motorcycle shot at the vehicle, they fled in the direction of Shaheed-e-Millat Road.
The defence counsel also asked the officer about the fact that the vehicle has been reportedly refurbished and there are no bullet holes in the doors or seats. “They must have gotten work done on the car,” the officer replied. In response to other questions, he said that the event had taken place two years ago and he couldn’t remember every minute’s detail.
The case has been adjourned to October 10.
Four men, Azhar Ali, Abdul Aziz, Syed Mohammad and Noor Mohammad, have been accused in two separate cases. The one filed at the Ferozabad police station accuses the men of murder, common intent, punishment for robbery, mischief and abetment. Another case, filed by the Crime Investigation Department, accuses the men of attempted murder, common intent, mischief and assaulting or using criminal force to deter public servants from working. Azhar Ali and Abdul Aziz have also been charged with illegal weapons possession.
