KARACHI:

The Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) has carried out a study which has identified 100 sites in Karachi as vulnerable to flooding during the monsoon season.

The study was conducted by the SSUET in collaboration with the Civil Engineering Department and the Institute of Human Settlements and Environment.

According to the report, the pattern of rainfall in the city is not uniform and causes more damage than just flooding such as severely affecting the water supply, sewerage, roads, transport and electricity.

It also mentioned that measures must be taken, such as protecting the Dhabeji pumping station from cyclones and finding an alternative route for bulk water supply to the city from it, undertaking retro fitting projects for water supply.
