Karachi violence: ‘MQM ready to quit if it helps improve situation’
Haroon was speaking to the media outside the Sindh Assembly with reference to the letter written to Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation of Karachi.
MQM’s Deputy Parliamentary Leader Faisal Subzwari, who wrote the letter on behalf of his party, said that 45 party workers have been killed since May 7 owing to the violence.
He said that his party trusts the chief minister but a criminal should be called a criminal. Those having bounty on their heads should not be made leaders, he added.
Subzwari further said that if Karachi’s security situation is disturbed then the economy will be affected, consequently affecting the country.
‘Govt is serious about law and order’
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said on Friday that the concerns expressed by the MQM over target killings and deteriorating law and order situation are genuine and that the government is serious about tackling issue.
"Chief Minister Sindh has also invited a delegation of traders to the CM House on Saturday to discuss their concerns," he told journalists outside the Sindh Assembly.
Memon said that the operation in Lyari by the law enforcement agencies was a 'targeted' operation in which several wanted criminals were arrested. Many criminals’ hideouts were raided in different areas of the city, he added.
While talking about extortion, he said that Karachi is a mega city with a population of around 20 million and it is not possible for the government to deploy security personnel at each and every shop of the city. It is not appropriate to say that the government is not serious about the unrest in Karachi, he asserted.

@Imran Haider: An alliance of all non-right-wing parties, like PPP, MQM, and ANP is the best hope for Pakistan. They have been in government and in alliance for 4 years now. Where you cryogenically frozen when Pakistan still had electricity and Karachi wasnt burning? But I do agree they should drop the charade and merge.(along with PML Q, JUI F).
MQM should make it a slogan for the next elections " weapons for all". And they will win the elections since there is no other solution left for this situation except to weaponize the shurfas of karachi because the gangsters already are. Otherwise we are heading towards a civil chaos of a very high intensity in Karachi where masses will start taking law in their own hands.
Imran Haider, it was Pervaiz Musharaf who repealed the hudood ordinance and not some corrupt piplia.
Staying has decidedly proved useless, so quitting should be tried.

Ah...........can they really quit...................they have never quit power in their history.......albeit for increasing their bargin. Whenever they have been permanently out of power, they were always pushed out of alliance, instead of voluntarily quiting on some genuine issue.

Now haven't we heard these statements from MQM a dozen times every year?
Why talk about the hypotheticals like leaving the government that have never been productive in the past! MQM should settle all their disputes with PPP and other allies behind the scene, and go in public only when it is inevitable and beneficial to the country. MQM being a progressive party must avoid behaving like reactionaries. An alliance of all non-right-wing parties, like PPP, MQM, and ANP is the best hope for Pakistan. They should seriously consider a merger into a single party to give a big blow to the reactionaries all over Pakistan. This is the demand of the age. Divided you will fall.
Quit violence and everything will be fine.
