SUKKUR/ KARACHI:

The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) employees, who have been demanding permanent jobs since 2011, were assured by federal minister Khursheed Shah on Sunday that their grievances would be resolved by June 22.

NCHD employees action committee member, Bahadur Bhurgari, told The Express Tribune that a five-member delegation met the minister. “[Khursheed Shah] promised the delegation that the issue of granting permanent jobs to NCHD employees would be resolved before June 22,” said Bhurgari.

Dozens of NCHD employees reportedly gathered at the Sukkur airport on Saturday to welcome the minister.

Nearly 4,000 schools across 23 districts in the province are operated by the NCHD. However, all of these schools have been shut and nearly 250,000 students suffered as a result, said Bhurgari.

The NCHD employees established a protest camp outside the Karachi Press Club 76 days ago, and tried to enter the city’s red zone, which contains the Chief Minister House, multiple times. However, they were always thwarted by the police.
