HYDERABAD:

Renowned Hindu spiritual leader Sain Saadh Ram, who passed away in Singapore on May 19, was cremated with religious rites in Raharki town of Ghotki district on Thursday, drawing tens of thousands of devotees and followers from across the country.

Body of 63-year-old leader was taken in a truck to the cremation site as mourners gathered in large numbers to pay their final respects.

Saadh Ram's mortal remains were flown to Karachi on May 20 and later transported to Sukkur by chartered aircraft. From Sukkur, the body was shifted to Raharki by ambulance and kept overnight for devotees to offer condolences and prayers.

Followers of the spiritual leader announced that a shrine would be constructed at the site of his cremation.

Born as Janardhan Lal, Saadh Ram was a postgraduate and had qualified the Combined Competitive Examination. He also served as an assistant commissioner before resigning from government service in 1990 following the death of his father and community head, Kaniya Lal.

He was subsequently appointed the sixth spiritual leader of the Raharki-based lineage founded by Sant Satram Das.
