Newly opened Red Line stretch sinks within days

Road from Safari Park to Nipa sinks, sparking safety fears as drainage covers sit above road level

The Red Line project on University Road has become a growing source of frustration for citizens, with residents describing the ongoing construction as a prolonged ordeal and questioning the quality of work being carried out.

Although authorities had recently completed and opened a stretch of road from Safari Park to Nipa Chowrangi for traffic, the section has reportedly begun to sink at multiple points within days of its opening.

The road has developed depressions of around four to six inches in several places, while sewerage manhole covers have been installed above the road surface, creating hazardous conditions for motorists - particularly motorcyclists.

Citizens fear the uneven surface and raised covers could lead to serious accidents as traffic continues to move through the area.

The situation has added to public concern over the Red Line construction on University Road, which residents say has already caused severe hardship over the past four and a half years due to prolonged delays and disruption.

Following the emergence of these issues, traffic has now been diverted to an adjacent route after the affected stretch was reportedly closed again for corrective work.
