HYDERABAD:

Two brothers were shot dead in Sindh's Kambar-Shahdadkot district on Thursday in an alleged retaliation linked to a free-will marriage, highlighting the continuing prevalence of tribal violence in rural areas.

The victims, identified as police constable Nadeem Ali Meyo and his brother Muzamil Ali Meyo, were attacked in their native village Pakho after their brother, Kashif Meyo, married a woman belonging to the Mugheri caste without her family's consent.

According to reports, Muzamil died on the spot, while Nadeem succumbed to injuries hours later at the trauma centre in Larkana.

The slain men were brothers of television reporter Abdul Waheed Meyo. Following the marriage, Kashif Meyo and his wife reportedly fled the village fearing retaliation.

Police had yet to register an FIR or make any arrests till the filing of this report.

The incident sparked protests by media workers in Kambar-Shahdadkot, Dadu and other districts, where journalists demanded immediate police action and the arrest of those involved in the killings.
