“Margo’s Got Money Troubles” has been officially renewed for a second season by Apple TV, with the announcement arriving ahead of the show’s Season 1 finale scheduled for May 20. The series, produced by A24, has quickly become one of the streamer’s notable recent drama offerings, blending coming of age storytelling with financial pressure and family dysfunction.

The renewal also brings a behind the scenes change for the next chapter. Eva Anderson is set to join series creator David E Kelley as co-showrunner for Season 2. Kelley has guided the adaptation from the beginning, shaping the television version of Rufi Thorpe’s 2024 novel into a character driven narrative focused on resilience, survival, and strained personal relationships.

The series stars Elle Fanning as Margo, a college dropout navigating early motherhood while facing mounting debt and limited opportunities. The first season follows her attempts to stabilise her life while balancing creativity and responsibility, with her parents portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman adding further tension and complexity to her situation. The ensemble also includes Nicole Kidman, Thaddea Graham, Marcia Gay Harden, Greg Kinnear, Michael Angarano, Rico Nasty and Lindsey Normington, contributing to a wide ranging depiction of Margo’s world.

In statements following the renewal, Fanning expressed enthusiasm about continuing the character’s journey, describing the opportunity to further explore Margo’s struggles and personal growth. Kelley similarly noted that the story was always designed with long form development in mind and that the creative team aimed to provide a more complete arc for the characters introduced in Season 1.

Apple TV programming executive Matt Cherniss highlighted the audience response to the series, pointing to strong engagement with its blend of humour and emotional storytelling. He also emphasised that the continuation of the show would allow further exploration of the family dynamics and personal challenges established in the first season.

Season 2 is expected to continue adapting material inspired by Thorpe’s novel while expanding the narrative beyond its initial framework. With production planning underway, the creative team has indicated that the next instalment will deepen the focus on Margo’s evolving responsibilities and the consequences of her decisions as she navigates increasingly complicated personal and financial pressures.
