KARACHI:

Pasban Democratic Party Chairman Altaf Shakur has warned that rising food insecurity and severe water scarcity in Pakistan could pose a serious threat to the country's future, calling for immediate and coordinated national action to address the crisis.

Speaking at a party meeting, he said Pakistan is rapidly heading towards acute water shortage, with per capita water availability declining at a dangerous pace. He pointed to a falling groundwater table, inefficiencies in the irrigation system, and negligible water storage capacity as major concerns.

He stressed that while economic stability and defence capabilities remain important, neglecting food and water security is unacceptable for any country. Despite being an agricultural nation, Pakistan is facing rising food inflation, declining crop yields, and worsening public hardship - issues he attributed to policy failures and weak governance.
