KARACHI:

The Sindh government has released Rs800 million to provide assistive devices to persons with disabilities, distributing funds among 105 partner organisations and NGOs in a major step towards inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunity.

Speaking at a ceremony, held at the Chief Minister's House under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said the true measure of a society lies in how it treats its most vulnerable citizens. He termed the initiative a reflection of the government's commitment to building an inclusive and compassionate society where everyone can live with dignity, independence, and confidence.

Through collaboration with credible partner organisations, the government is ensuring the provision of wheelchairs, hearing aids, prosthetic limbs, and other assistive devices that can significantly improve quality of life.

Shah emphasised that with the right support systems, persons with disabilities can play active role in society and contribute to the economy. He highlighted ongoing efforts to expand DEPD services to the taluka level, strengthen implementation of the 5% job quota in the public sector, and encourage its adoption in the private sector.
