KARACHI:

An Additional District and Sessions Judge South has sentenced an accused to 10 years in prison for raping a woman under the pretense of marriage.

The court announced its verdict after concluding the trial, ruling that the prosecution had successfully proven the case. The accused, Osama Waderia, was handed a 10-year prison sentence and a fine of Rs50,000. The sentence was delivered via video link.

In its judgment, the court observed that the accused established a relationship with the victim, gained her trust, and falsely promised marriage after introducing her to his family. The court found the victim's statement credible, noting that the prosecution had proven the case in light of DNA evidence, medical reports, and witness testimonies.

According to the complainant, she had a friendship with the accused, who promised to marry her. She stated that on November 27/28, 2024, he called her to a guest house in DHA under the pretense of introducing her to his family, where he threatened her with a knife and raped her.
