KARACHI:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has sought details of eight NADRA officials allegedly involved in issuing national identity cards to Afghan nationals.

According to sources, the move comes after the arrest of an officer accused of facilitating the issuance of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to Afghan citizens. Following the arrest, the FIA requested complete records of eight NADRA officials, including the official arrested earlier.

The details sought include all approvals granted by these officials for the issuance of identity cards, as well as records of cases approved by them from 2022 to date. Other officials named in the inquiry include Uzair Khan, Qamar Rafiq, Rizwan Khan, Kashif Saleem Mohammad, Fahad, and former NADRA officer Khalid Hussain.

Earlier, the FIA's Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Karachi arrested Furqan Ahmed after two suspects were offloaded at Jinnah International Airport. The suspects, identified as Habibullah and Naimatullah, were attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia using Pakistani identity cards that had reportedly been approved by the arrested official.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
