Hilary Duff says song We Don’t Talk reflects rift with sister Haylie
Hilary Duff confirms We Don’t Talk is about sister Haylie and calls estrangement “lonely”

Hilary Duff has confirmed that her new song We Don’t Talk addresses her current estrangement from her sister, Haylie Duff.
Speaking on CBS Mornings on February 20, the 38-year-old singer and actress said the track from her album Luck... or something reflects what she described as a difficult period in her personal life.
“It's definitely about my sister and just absolutely the most lonely part of my existence. It's not having my sister in my life at the moment, and I really struggled with thinking about including that on the record,” she told host Anthony Mason.
Duff said she ultimately decided to include the song because it represents her “truth”. “So many people are having this experience [of estrangement], and for me, making a record was just going to be all about connection. I was never going to take outside songs from people...what would the point be, right, if it wasn't me and it wasn't my life?” she said.
The singer became emotional during the interview and spoke about growing up in the public eye. “I didn't necessarily choose that part, but it's my reality, and so it was honestly like healing to say,” she explained.
She added that it can be “hard to watch your life unfold on the internet sometimes with talking heads on TikTok speculating this, that, and the other.”
Asked whether she hopes her sister will hear the track, Duff replied: “I don't think that that would help. I think I have to just exist as a person on my own and do what I want to do.”
She said the song reflects her personal experience, adding: “It's literally just my experience, and that's really all I feel like sharing.”
