Mckenna Grace has been cast as Daphne Blake in Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, according to sources. The eight-episode show will explore how the Mystery Inc. gang first came together.

Commissioned by Netflix in March 2025, the series is described as a modern reimagining of the long-running animated franchise.

The official logline states: “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne (Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.” It adds that, alongside Velma and Freddy, the group attempts to solve a case that threatens to expose their secrets.

The role marks a return to the character for Grace, who previously voiced a young Daphne in the 2020 animated film Scoob!. She was set to reprise the part in Scoob! Holiday Haunt before the project was cancelled.

Grace received an Emmy nomination in 2021 for outstanding guest actress in a drama series for The Handmaid’s Tale. Her television credits include The Young and the Restless, The Haunting of Hill House, Young Sheldon and Designated Survivor. In film, she has appeared in Gifted, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Five Night’s a Freddy’s 2.

The series is written and showrun by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who also executive produce with André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner under Midnight Radio. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman executive produce via Berlanti Productions. Warner Bros Television is producing.

Scooby-Doo was previously adapted into a live-action film in 2002, followed by Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed in 2004, alongside multiple animated series and television films.
