Angelina Jolie is preparing to move abroad later this year, saying she has long intended to leave Los Angeles once her youngest children reach adulthood.

According to a source cited by People, the actor “never wanted to live in L.A. full-time” but remained due to a custody arrangement with former husband Brad Pitt. Her twins, Vivienne and Knox, turn 18 on July 12.

“She’s eyeing several locations abroad,” the insider said. “She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles.”

Jolie has previously spoken about prioritising privacy and safety for her six children. In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said: “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety.”

She added: “I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be… that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.”

The actor said she expects to spend significant time in Cambodia, where she adopted her eldest son, Maddox, in 2002. “Cambodia was the country that made me aware of refugees,” she told Vogue India. “It made me engage in foreign affairs in a way I never had, and join UNHCR. Above all, it made me a mom.”

Jolie has also expressed concern about the political climate in the United States. Speaking at the San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain, she said: “I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country.”

“I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life… My worldview is equal, united, and international. Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous,” she added.

Jolie shares six children with Pitt, including Maddox, Zahara, Pax, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox.
