Michelle Obama is embracing a bold new look and a new sense of personal freedom, revealing she recently got 10 new ear piercings in a single sitting.

Speaking on a recent episode of her IMO podcast with brother Craig Robinson, the former First Lady shared how the spontaneous decision came together.

“I have always thought about getting some extra piercings in my ear and just never got around to it,” she said, explaining she had once gotten a second piercing before having children but eventually stopped wearing earrings in it.

That changed after being inspired by younger people in her life. “Nowadays, the young people in my life are doing more piercings. There’s just more beautiful adornment,” she said, describing the trend as a “cluster” or “constellation” style.

What began as a plan for just a few piercings quickly escalated. “I was going in for a few,” she recalled, laughing, before telling the piercer, “Oh, put one there and put one there.”

“So in one sitting, I’ve got 10 piercings,” she added, noting the experience “wasn’t bad at all.”

The change didn’t go unnoticed for long though not immediately by her husband. Obama joked that it took Barack Obama several days to realize something was different. “Barack, [it] took him a couple of days,” she said, adding that he eventually noticed after she had been wearing her hair down.

Beyond the piercings, Obama reflected on how her style has evolved since leaving the White House, saying she now feels more free to express herself. She previously shared that wearing braids, for example, represents that sense of freedom, especially in her more relaxed daily life.

The former First Lady’s new look is just one more example of how she’s embracing self-expression on her own terms and having fun while doing it.
