Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page is preparing for a major stage comeback as both actor and producer in a new West End adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby.

According to Deadline, the production is currently seeking a London theater with hopes of launching performances in the fall.

The adaptation is written by Joel Horwood and Maria Aberg and will be directed by Michael Longhurst, former artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse. Page described the project as “electric, glamorous, deeply romantic, utterly heartbreaking,” adding that the story’s themes feel especially relevant in today’s social climate.

Producers believe the new version will offer a fresh perspective on Fitzgerald’s tale of wealth, ambition, and the American Dream. Longhurst noted that the play explores capitalism, social mobility, and power structures while delivering a darker and more politically probing interpretation than many previous adaptations.

Page, who first worked with Longhurst early in his theater career, reportedly reached out to the director expressing his desire to play the iconic role of Jay Gatsby. After reviewing the script together, both agreed the adaptation struck the right balance between spectacle and emotional intimacy.

Award-winning producer Simon Friend is backing the project alongside Page’s production banner, A Mighty Stranger. Friend praised the adaptation’s “bold theatricality,” stating that Page’s blend of sophistication and intellectual depth will make his portrayal memorable.

Although best known for his screen roles in projects such as The Gray Man and upcoming romantic comedy You, Me & Tuscany, Page has long expressed interest in returning to the stage. Further casting announcements are expected once a theater is secured.
