Donald Trump criticized Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl 2026 halftime show in a series of posts on Truth Social.

“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, ever!” Trump wrote.

“It makes no sense, is an affront to the greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of success, creativity, or excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the world. This ‘show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the best stock market and 401(k)s in history!”

Trump continued, “There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a halftime show and watch, it will get great reviews from the fake news media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the real world — and, by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new kickoff rule. Make America great again!”

Earlier in the day, Trump posted a more upbeat message about the Super Bowl, writing, “Enjoy the Super Bowl, America! Our country is stronger, bigger, and better than ever before and, the best is yet to come!”

Bad Bunny’s selection as the 2026 Super Bowl performer sparked controversy immediately after the NFL and Apple Music announced it last September. Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, condemned the choice and suggested ICE agents would be present at the game.

“It’s so shameful they’ve decided to pick somebody who seems to hate America so much to represent them at the halftime show,” Lewandowski said. “We should be trying to be inclusive, not exclusive. There are plenty of great bands and entertainment people who could be playing at that show that would be bringing people together and not separating them.”

The Super Bowl marked Bad Bunny’s only U.S. concert appearance in 2026, as his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour is not stopping in the States. Bad Bunny told I-D magazine that fears of ICE raids contributed to his decision to skip U.S. tour dates.

In interviews after the announcement, Trump claimed he did not know the artist. “I’ve never heard of him,” Trump said on NewsMax’s Greg Kelly Reports. “I don’t know who he is… I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment — I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Bad Bunny framed the halftime performance as a historic moment for the Latinx community. Speaking to i-D last October, he said, “It’s notable for all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors. It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”
