Grammy-winning R&B legend D’Angelo dies at 51 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving fans heartbroken

Grammy-winning R&B and soul icon D’Angelo has died at the age of 51 after a private battle with pancreatic cancer, sources confirmed to TMZ.
The “Brown Sugar” hitmaker passed away Tuesday morning in New York City, surrounded by loved ones.
According to sources close to the family and his former manager Kedar Massenberg, D’Angelo had been quietly struggling with his health in recent years. The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the music industry, as fans and fellow artists mourn the loss of one of R&B’s most influential voices.
D’Angelo rose to fame in 1995 with his debut album “Brown Sugar,” which helped define the neo-soul era. Over the years, he collaborated with major artists including Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Q-Tip, earning critical acclaim for his artistry and musical depth.
He went on to win four Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Album for “Voodoo” in 2001 and “Black Messiah” in 2016. His timeless hit “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” remains one of the most iconic music videos in R&B history, showcasing his raw emotion and artistry.
In 2024, fellow musician Raphael Saadiq revealed D’Angelo had been working on new music, describing him as “super excited” about his next project.
D’Angelo is survived by two sons and a daughter. His first son’s mother, singer Angie Stone, also passed away earlier this year in a tragic car accident.
Fans around the world are remembering D’Angelo as a soulful innovator who changed the sound of R&B forever.
