Snoop Dogg's team has denied the rapper issued any apology following backlash over his comments on gender representation in Disney and Pixar's Lightyear. The controversy began after Snoop, 53, appeared on the It’s Giving podcast and expressed discomfort with a same-sex kiss scene in the 2022 animated film, which he watched with his grandchildren.

Describing the moment on the podcast, Snoop said he was “scared to go to the movies” after being caught off guard by the scene and his grandson’s questions about same-sex parenting. “I didn’t come in [to see Lightyear] for this… I don’t have the answer,” he said, sparking criticism online from fans and LGBTQ+ advocates who labeled the comments dismissive.

Following the backlash, a seemingly apologetic Instagram comment surfaced under a post by Hollywood Unlocked, where activist and RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Ts Madison discussed the incident. The comment, attributed to Snoop, expressed regret for being unprepared to explain same-sex relationships to a six-year-old and asked for guidance from the LGBTQ+ community. However, a representative for Snoop told The Hollywood Reporter that the apology was fake and not authored by the rapper.

The Lightyear kiss scene has been controversial since its release. Originally removed by Disney, it was reinstated after internal protests. Producer Galyn Susman stated the scene was always integral to the story, emphasizing its emotional significance. Co-writer Lauren Gunderson and actor Chris Evans, who voiced Buzz Lightyear, also publicly defended the inclusion.

The incident underscores broader conversations about LGBTQ+ representation in children’s media and the response from public figures. While Snoop Dogg has not addressed the issue directly since, the debate continues over the role celebrities play in shaping public discourse on inclusion and representation in entertainment.
