'Supergirl' tracking points to modest opening amid Milly Alcock comments under scrutiny
'Supergirl' faces early box office scrutiny as Milly Alcock’s comments spark discussion online

Supergirl is facing increased scrutiny ahead of its June release, with early box office projections suggesting a moderate opening while comments from star Milly Alcock have generated discussion across social media.
According to industry estimates cited in recent reports, the upcoming DC film is projected to open between $47 million and $65 million domestically. Forecasts for its total US box office run range from $107 million to $181 million.
The figures have prompted discussion about the film’s commercial prospects. Reports noted that Supergirl carries a production budget of approximately $170 million, with additional marketing costs potentially bringing total expenditure close to $245 million.
Analysts cited in the reports suggested the film could require around $425 million worldwide to reach profitability.
The conversation surrounding the project has also expanded following comments Alcock made during an interview discussing online criticism and fandom culture.
Addressing criticism from anonymous social media accounts, Alcock said, “It’s from a lot of people whose profiles have no photo, who are burner accounts.”
She added that some profiles identify themselves as “Dad of four, Christian,” which she described as “hilarious to me.”
Alcock further commented, “If you’re p-ssing the right kind of people off, you’re doing OK.”
Her remarks generated mixed reactions online. Some social media users argued the comments could affect audience perception of the film, while others defended the actress and viewed the remarks as a response to online harassment.
Talking about expectations surrounding the upcoming film, Alcock said, “Of course I’m scared, of course, I want people to like me and the movie. But, ultimately, it’s out of my control.”
Supergirl is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on June 26.
