Snoop Dogg’s role as a coach on The Voice is hanging in the balance after backlash over his remarks about LGBTQ+ representation in Disney’s Lightyear. NBC executives are said to be furious and are holding crisis talks over his future on the show.

The rapper came under fire after telling the It’s Giving podcast that he felt “scared to go to the movies” when his grandson asked how two women in the animated film could have a baby. His comments, widely branded homophobic, drew swift internal concern from production bosses, who reminded him that The Voice is built on inclusivity, family appeal and a strictly apolitical stance.

A source claimed that his remarks created “the exact kind of conversation” the network wanted to avoid, with some contestants and crew members reportedly left feeling uneasy on set. Insiders stress that the show does not condone his comments and that discussions are ongoing about whether he should continue beyond the upcoming season.

Although his future remains shaky, Snoop has since spoken out about the controversy, clarifying that he never intended to offend and insisting that his words had been taken out of context. Despite this, doubts persist within the production over whether his presence still aligns with the show’s values.

The situation only adds to questions already surrounding his position. Reports suggest that Snoop has struggled to connect with contestants and has yet to deliver a winning team, while some insiders have criticised his level of engagement. Combined with his polarising political stances, including open support for Donald Trump, his continued role looks increasingly uncertain.

Season 28 of The Voice is scheduled to premiere on September 22 with Snoop appearing alongside Reba McEntire, Michael Bublé and Niall Horan. Whether he will be invited back after the season ends, however, remains unresolved.
