Halle Berry has opened up about her past marriage to singer Eric Benét, reflecting on the emotional impact of his infidelity during a recent appearance on NBC’s Today with Jenna and Sheinelle.

The Oscar-winning actor said the experience remains deeply vivid more than two decades later.

Berry said the public nature of the scandal made it impossible to ignore at the time, as the breakdown of the marriage was widely reported. However, she explained that she avoided speaking about it extensively in public while it was unfolding, choosing instead to process the situation privately due to personal and family considerations. Despite this, she said she leaned on close friends and other women for emotional support.

Her comments came as she praised broadcaster Gayle King for recently sharing her own experience with infidelity on a podcast interview. Berry noted that hearing others speak openly about similar life events can be therapeutic, helping people process long-term emotional effects and find comfort in shared experiences.

The Monster’s Ball star added that she still remembers “every detail” of the relationship breakdown, describing it as something that never fully fades. She emphasised that speaking about difficult personal history can offer a sense of catharsis and emotional release, especially when others relate to similar experiences.

Berry was married to Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005. During their marriage, Benét admitted to infidelity and later sought treatment, saying he hoped to repair the relationship. Berry has since moved forward in her personal life but continues to reflect on past experiences when discussing relationships, healing and emotional resilience in public conversations.
