Fans line Welsh streets as Bonnie Tyler's coffin is brought home

Hundreds of fans gathered in the Welsh seaside village of Mumbles on Saturday, August 15, to pay their respects as Bonnie Tyler's coffin was brought back to Wales ahead of her funeral.

The singer's coffin, draped in a Welsh flag and accompanied by a framed photograph of Tyler, was transported through Mumbles as crowds lined the streets to say goodbye. Fans applauded, threw flowers and broke into a rendition of her iconic hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" as the hearse passed.

Tyler, whose real name was Gaynor Hopkins, died in Portugal on July 8 at the age of 75. She had been receiving treatment after undergoing emergency surgery for an intestinal condition.

The Welsh singer was born in Skewen and grew up near Swansea before becoming an international star. She achieved worldwide fame with "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in 1983, while other major hits included "It's a Heartache" and "Holding Out for a Hero."

Tyler maintained a strong connection to Wales throughout her career, regularly returning to her home country despite her international success. Her final journey through the area has therefore given local fans an opportunity to publicly celebrate her life and career.

A celebration of Tyler's life for family and friends will take place at Swansea Minster on Monday, August 17. The service will be private, although it will be streamed and shown on a screen in Swansea's St David's Square. She will then make a final journey through her hometown of Skewen before a private family committal.
