Severe heat persists in Sindh as Karachi records humid conditions

Dadu breaks 10-year heat record as temperature hits 51.5°C

KARACHI:

Karachi experienced a rise in night-time temperatures due to severe heat on Friday, with another hot and humid day expected, according to the Meteorological Department.

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 30°C, while the morning temperature stood at 31°C with 75 per cent humidity. Westerly and south-westerly sea winds were blowing at 16 km/h.

The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 35°C and 37°C, with high humidity likely to persist throughout the day.

In rural Sindh, Dadu remained the hottest area, recording a minimum temperature of 31.5°C, according to the Meteorological Department.

On Thursday, Dadu recorded a new heat record, with the area’s 10-year temperature record broken amid intense heat conditions.

According to the Meteorological Department, a maximum temperature of 51.4°C was recorded in Dadu on 18 May 2016. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 51.5°C on Thursday.

The temperature recorded was 4.5°C higher than the May average. Larkana and Jacobabad also recorded temperatures of 50.5°C on the same day.
