KPop Demon Hunters has officially become the most-watched movie in Netflix history, surpassing Red Notice with 236 million views just 67 days after release.
Netflix confirmed the milestone on Tuesday, noting the film’s sustained global popularity with over 25 million additional views in its tenth week and placement on the most-watched list across 32 countries.
The film follows K-pop girl group Huntr/x, who secretly hunt demons, as they face off against rival boy band Saja Boys, themselves revealed as demons. Featuring Rumi, Mira and Zoey, the production blends K-pop performance with fantasy action.
Since its streaming debut on 20 June, the film has been praised for its catchy hits and strong visuals, earning a 97% critics score and 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Beyond streaming, KPop Demon Hunters has achieved significant chart success. Billboard confirmed its soundtrack as the first ever to land four songs simultaneously in the Hot 100’s top 10 with "Golden" leading at No. 1.
Netflix plans on submitting the song for awards consideration including the Oscars. The soundtrack has also made the cast one of Spotify’s most-listened artists with 51.8 million monthly listeners.
The film also grossed an estimated $18 million at the US and Canadian box office during a limited singalong run, selling out around 1,100 screenings. This marks the first time a Netflix release has reached No. 1 at the box office after streaming.
Amid the milestone, Sony Pictures and Netflix are in talks for an animated sequel, sources confirm.
