Rapper Lil Nas X was arrested in Los Angeles early Thursday morning following an incident on Ventura Boulevard, police confirmed.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), officers responded at about 05:30 local time to reports of a man walking in underwear along the street. TMZ subsequently published unverified footage that appeared to show the Grammy-winning artist dancing in the street wearing only underwear and cowboy boots. In the clip, he invited passersby to “come to the party.”
The 25-year-old, born Montero Lamar Hill, has been preparing to release his second studio album, Dreamboy, later this year. He has teased new music on Instagram in recent weeks, raising anticipation among fans.
Lil Nas X rose to prominence in 2019 with Old Town Road, which became the longest-running number one song on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 17 consecutive weeks at the top. The track earned him two Grammy Awards and made him the first openly gay man to win a Country Music Association award.
Known for both his chart success and provocative imagery, the rapper has often faced criticism from conservative groups. His 2021 single Montero (Call Me By Your Name), which featured controversial visuals, was labeled “depraved” by opponents. Lil Nas X responded with humor online, including a mock apology video and pointed social media posts.
