Marvel Rivals has announced a major update to its player moderation system, introducing full-match voice chat monitoring to identify and penalise toxic behaviour. As part of the game’s new Operation: Shield the Players initiative, in-game voice communication will be screened in every match from Season 3.5 onward.
According to Creative Director Guangguang, flagged instances of abusive behaviour will be reviewed by human moderators to determine whether bans or other disciplinary action are warranted.
The update is designed to create a safer environment by shifting the burden away from players having to report voice violations manually.
The voice chat screening system forms part of a broader set of changes, including adjustments to Team-Up abilities and improved support for players affected by teammate disconnections.
Players will also be able to customise chat filters and mute specific terms to reduce frustration during matches.
While some users welcomed the improvements, others voiced concern over data privacy and the extent of surveillance in online games.
Critics have raised questions about how the system detects problematic language, the criteria for human review, and how long voice recordings will be stored.
The changes come amid broader debates about online safety and digital privacy, with recent data breaches in other platforms increasing public scrutiny of content monitoring practices.
Guangguang emphasised the game’s intent to build a cooperative community, stating, “United we stand, divided we fall. I truly believe that, if we work together, we will all have a great time in Marvel Rivals.”
