After 15 years of performing together, country duo Maddie & Tae have announced they are parting ways professionally.

The platinum-selling pair, consisting of Maddie Marlow Font and Tae Dye Kerr, revealed the decision on December 8 2025 in an exclusive interview with People, emphasising that their split is not necessarily permanent.

“We’re leaving this so open-ended because, you know, we might make another record one day,” Font, 30, said. “We might go on some tour dates one day. But just in this season. It doesn't feel aligned for us to do it together.”

The decision came during a candid phone conversation between the two friends. “Maddie was just like, ‘Tell me where your heart is,’” Kerr, 30, recalled. “And I was like, ‘My heart is at home.’ And she said, ‘Okay. Then that’s what we need to do.’”

Kerr plans to step back from music to focus on her family, including her husband, Grammy-winning producer Josh Kerr, and their two children. Font, mother to her two-year-old son Forrest and wife to Jonah Font, is preparing to launch a solo career.

Both emphasised that their personal friendship will continue. “Even though we’re not gonna go on this journey as Maddie & Tae together, we’re still walking and doing life together outside of it,” Font said.

The duo first met in 2010 through a vocal coach and are known for hits such as “Girl In A Country Song” and “Die From A Broken Heart.”

Over their 15-year career, they have received numerous CMA and ACM nominations, released four albums and four EPs, and headlined multiple tours.

Fans still have the opportunity to see Maddie & Tae live, as several shows remain scheduled through June 2026. Font expressed gratitude to supporters, stating, “They have been the gasoline in our tank.”
