A video falsely claimed to show the final moments of Indian Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the recent attack in Pahalgam, has gone viral on social media platforms, sparking outrage and prompting a clarification from the individuals featured in the clip.

According to Indian media reports, Lieutenant Narwal had recently married on April 16 and was on his honeymoon with his wife in the town of Pahalgam in Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) when the attack occurred, resulting in his death.

In the wake of the incident, a video circulated widely on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram, with users claiming it depicted Narwal dancing with his wife in his final moments.

The clip shows a man spreading his arms in a style reminiscent of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan while dancing with a woman, further fueling its virality under captions such as "Lieutenant Vinay's last moments."

However, on Thursday, Indian journalist Sachin Gupta shared a video on X in which a couple clarified that the viral footage actually features them, not Lt. Narwal and his wife.

In the video, the woman explains that she and her husband are alive and that their personal video is being misused by media outlets and social media users falsely linking it to the late Navy officer.

Searches on Instagram confirmed the couple's identity through accounts named Yashika Shish Sahrawat and Yashika Sharma Sahrawat, where the original video was also found.

In their clarification, the woman says: “Thank God, we are alive. The video being circulated in the name of Lt. Vinay is ours. It is an old video and has no connection whatsoever with the recent tragic event or Lt. Vinay Narwal.”

The caption of their Instagram post reads: “We are alive. We would like to draw your attention to a recent video being misused by several Indian pages and media channels. It’s falsely being claimed as Lt. Vinay’s last video.”

The couple extended their condolences to Lt. Narwal’s family and urged people to report accounts misusing their video. “It’s shocking to see that media outlets are using unverified videos just for views. This makes it even harder for people to trust the news,” they said in the statement.
