US Army Chief of Staff Randy George was fired on Thursday by War Secretary Pete Hegseth, three US defence officials told Reuters, in ‌the latest purge among the Pentagon's most senior ranks.

According to US media reports, two other generals were also fired from their positions.

According to three US officials, Hegseth also fired the chief of chaplains, Maj. Gen. William Green, and the commanding General of Army Transformation and Training Command, David Hodne.

Even as Hegseth, a former Fox News host, has moved quickly to reshape the department, firing a general during wartime is nearly without precedent.

The Pentagon confirmed that George, who had more than a year left in his term, "will be retiring from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately." It said in a statement it was grateful for George's decades of service. "We wish him well in his retirement," it said.

Two of the officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Hegseth has also fired General David Hodne, who leads the Army's Transformation and Training Command, and Major General William Green, head of the Army's Chaplain Corps.

The department did not give a reason for George's departure, which comes as the US military builds up its forces in the Middle East while carrying out operations against Iran.

The US strikes in the region are largely being carried out by the Navy and Air Force, although US Army soldiers have been dispatched to the Middle East for air defence systems. The Army is the largest branch of the US military, with about 450,000 active-duty soldiers.

Thousands of soldiers from the US Army's elite 82nd Airborne Division have also started arriving in the Middle East, potentially for ground operations in Iran.

Latest upheaval at Pentagon

There had been no public signs of friction between Hegseth and George, even as Hegseth pursued controversial moves such as firing the Army's top lawyer and arranging a massive military parade ‌to celebrate the Army's 250th birthday, which coincided with Trump's birthday.

Earlier this week, Hegseth also reversed an Army decision to investigate Army pilots who were flying attack helicopters near singer Kid Rock's house, in an apparent show of support for the vocal Trump backer.

CBS News, which first reported the dismissal, said it was not related to the Kid Rock incident.

One of the officials said Hegseth's former military aide and Army vice chief of staff, General Christopher LaNeve, will take over George's role in an acting capacity.

Another of the officials added that senior Army leadership learned about George's firing at the same time it was made public.

George, an infantry officer who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, was confirmed to the top Army post in 2023. Terms in that role usually run for four years.

Before holding the top job, George was the vice chief of the Army and, before that, the senior military adviser to then-Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin.

He was considered close to Army Secretary Dan Driscoll. The two worked together to take on large defence companies in the Army's drive to speed up weapons development and drive down costs.

George's removal adds to recent upheaval at all levels of leadership at the Pentagon, including the firing last year of the previous chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General C.Q. Brown, as well as the chief of naval operations and Air Force vice chief of staff.

The office for George did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

sultan mahmodd | 2 weeks ago | Reply Your response is a blatant example of polytheism a subtle but dangerous act of placing the chain of authority rulers scholars and righteous on a level equal to God s absolute sovereignty. In Surah At-Tawbah 9 31 God Almighty clearly states this They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides God . When the commentator claims that God s limits are protected by scholars righteous people and rulers he creates a religious and political barrier between the servant and the Creator. Legal Response Shattering the Idol of the Establishment 1. Polytheism of Derived Authority You claim that the Saudi constitution derives its laws from the Quran and Sunnah. But once a human being devises a law and codifies it in a national constitution he has claimed the right to define the meaning of the Quran God. The Truth If the rulers and scholars decide to invite the CIA Mossad Indian Intelligence Agency or pay a protection tax and invest 7.3 trillion in Zionist New Israel Treasury bonds belonging to two billion Muslims instead of giving them to a dominant foreign power then you are crossing the Quranic red lines for your own national interests. The Quranic Veto God is the sole authority judgment belongs only to God . By making the rulers implementers and the scholars guardians the commentator has replaced the direct sovereignty of the message with a human bureaucracy. This is the definition of taking lords besides God. 2. The Scholars and Doctors Fallacy The commentator claims that Arabs have changed because they have now become doctors and scholars. This is a complete misunderstanding of verse 97. The Heart Not the Certificate God did not rebuke the Bedouin for lacking medical certificates or civic culture but rather for the hardness of their hearts and their tendency to place tribal pride above revelation. A doctor who wears a suit and worships his national red line is just as much of an Arab in the Quranic sense as a Bedouin in his tent. The presence of prominent scholars means nothing if these scholars are used to legitimize the surrender of sovereignty to foreign entities. 3. Misusing the Story of Abdullah ibn Ubayy You are trying to confine verse 80 to a specific historical figure to evade its current application. The Eternal Warning The Quran is not a history book but a living law . The ruling of seventy times applies to anyone who claims to follow the Prophet while his heart is attached to a national idol . If you say We are fine without the ignorant while your scholars remain silent about the three powers that control your land you are practicing the same hypocrisy that Abdullah ibn Ubayy began. You ask for forgiveness O God while practicing polytheism through human authority. The final word The righteous are not the law. The comment concludes by saying God s limits are protected... by scholars and the righteous. No. God s limits are protected by God. To suggest that He needs a guard of scholars and rulers is to diminish Him. When you say If it is in religion then we are its people you are claiming ownership of religion. Religion belongs to God alone. You are not its people you are His servants. By claiming ownership of religion and protecting it through the state apparatus you have committed the polytheism of arrogance. You have turned the path to God into national borders and as verse 80 warns no amount of feigned patriotism will stop divine guidance now nor will it keep divine guidance from you when you replace God with a system. GodAloneIsAuthority SurahAtTawbahIsAlive NoLimitsExceptForGod The Great Saudi Empire is a red line. Its rulers sons and daughters resources and achievements are my weapon. My pen is my weapon for your favor cannot be denied O homeland my birthplace the pearl of the north Al-Qurayyat. Account 6
