Karachi braces for heavy monsoon rains from August 5-7

Monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have gradually started entering the country

Monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have gradually started entering the country. Rain with thunderstorms is expected in Karachi from 5th to 7th August and according to met office this new spell of rain could prove more powerful than the previous system.

On Wednesday, light rain, drizzle, and showers occurred in various parts of the city, with a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius recorded.

In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded in Gadap, measuring 56.7 millimetres, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The met department’s weather advisory states that monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have started entering the upper regions of the country with intensity. The effects of the new monsoon system will begin to appear in various areas of Sindh from 2nd August.

According to Chief Meteorologist Karachi, Sardar Sarfaraz, light rain may continue in Karachi under this system. However, heavy rain with more intensity is expected between 5th and 7th August, with some areas of the city possibly experiencing torrential downpours.

Sardar Sarfaraz explained that after moving from the Bay of Bengal to central India, the monsoon system will start receiving moisture from the Arabian Sea, making this system potentially stronger than the previous one.

On Wednesday, the weather in the city was partly cloudy in the morning and clear in the afternoon. Light rain, drizzle, and showers occurred in various areas, including Bahadurabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Old Vegetable Market, Tariq Road, Hasan Square, Malir Kala Board, and Malir 15.

Light rain is expected in the city over the next three days. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 33.7 degrees Celsius, with a humidity level of 73 per cent.
