Schools in Islamabad also adopt four-day week schedule

Secretary PEIRA says new schedule will take effect immediately and remain in place until further notice

ISLAMABAD:

The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) announced on Thursday that all private educational institutions in Islamabad would now operate only four days a week for on-campus academic activities.

In a notification, PEIRA Secretary Javed Iqbal stated that the new schedule, running from Monday to Thursday, would take effect immediately and remain in place until further notice.

It further added that the decision was made following government directives on austerity and fuel conservation measures, and all concerned parties had been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the order.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) also announced that all public and private universities across the country, along with degree-awarding institutions (DAIs), could resume physical classes from April 1.

The development, the notification stated, was in continuation of a letter by the HEC dated March 10 regarding the implementation of austerity and fuel conservation measures.

On March 9, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the closure of all educational institutions in the province until the end of the month.

In addition, the provincial government had also imposed restrictions on fuel usage by government officials, as part of efforts to manage the energy shortage.
